COVID-19 Information

Due to the statewide stay-at-home order and guidance on physical distancing, seating for committee hearings will be very limited for press and for the public. All are encouraged to watch our hearing from its live stream on the Assembly’s website at https://www.assembly.ca.gov/todaysevents.

We encourage the public to submit written testimony before the hearing through the Position Letter web portal by following the web portal submission instructions. Please note that any written testimony submitted to the committee is considered public comment and may be read into the record or reprinted.

The Capitol will be open for attendance of committee hearings, but the public is strongly encouraged to participate via the web portal or telephonically.

Information regarding a call-in option for testimony will be made available on the committee website closer to the hearing date. We encourage the public to monitor the committee’s website for updates.

At the committee hearing, two witnesses will be permitted to testify in support of each bill and two witnesses may testify in opposition. All additional witnesses may state their name, affiliation, and whether they are in support of, or opposed to, the bill being presented.

Bill authors will identify their main support witnesses. If you are interested in being one of the main witnesses who provides a statement in support of a bill that is scheduled to be heard at the Committee’s May 14, 2020 hearing, please contact the author’s office as soon as possible. If you are interested in being one of the main witnesses who provides a statement in opposition to a bill that is scheduled to be heard at the hearing, please coordinate with other witnesses who may wish to testify and submit witness information to the committee. All information about main support and opposition witnesses must be submitted to the Committee by 5 pm on Friday, May 8, 2020, by sending an email to wendy.burke@asm.ca.gov. In order to be chosen as a main witness, you must have submitted a letter in support of, or in opposition to, the bill, preferably by the committee’s deadline (5pm on Tuesday, May 5th). In addition, the author or main opposition witnesses should notify the committee how each witness plans to testify -- whether (1) by telephone; (2) Witness Videoconference Room, located in the Capitol; or in-person in the Assembly Chamber. Support and opposition witnesses other than main witnesses will have the option to either testify by telephone (preferred), or in person in the Assembly Chamber (discouraged).
